FIX THE MANAGEMENT OF THE LARGE H. A. CENTRES AND THE PRESSURE ON THE REST WILL EASE. The office has been branded with colour-coding which will assist clients in finding which queue they need to join, ensuring no one wastes time standing in the wrong queue. A long wait is GUARANTEED. While I sit here trying to apply for my passport, a man mumbled from the front that scanning systems are down and a further delay of 30 minutes is expected.

Waited in line all day, late afternoon around closing time we entered building. Processing done efficiently even then. Difficult customer ahead of me, unfased friendly service even then.

Only one week for a new passport. Very efficient service. Staff might just be a tad more friendly a smile costs nothing.
Stood with our newborn baby waiting to register birth. Doors were closed in front of our faces by silent security lady at 330,5 us of waiting outside. Branch staff member came out to say we cannot be helped as they are closing and that he is the only one doing all the admin alone.

“The importance of this office is that it is bigger, there is a colour coding in terms of the services. If you are applying for new ID/passport then I suggest you arrive before they open. Collections are usually OK. I queued for my renewal - ID and passport - absolute chaos people just pushing in.
I have lost days of work time in these efforts. Would prefer much better guidance on which queues exist and where located BEFORE picking a queue. Loss of stars due to to this paragraph. Waiting 4 hours only for them to close the door.

Utterly utterly useless. Been here since this morning at 7am. And it seems their lunch breaks lasts at least a few hours. There is 10 booths for people to help you but only one is occupied the whole day.and 2 cashier spots but only one occupied and not even all the time. 2 photo booths but only one person to help. And its super busy but they take their time to assist people.

They don't even deserve one star. You wait for over 2 hours just to collect your Passport. Bathrooms are a disgrace. You can visit the official website () to find information on requirements and documents needed for your application or renewal.
“Those who have not applied for their smart ID cards are encouraged to capitalise on the extended hours and accordingly apply with speed, ahead of the general elections. All other services will be offered, including application for and collection of passports and registration of births, marriages and deaths,” read the statement. “Extending office hours at large offices and selected medium offices will help ensure citizens and clients are not turned away before receiving the services they require.
This will assist also in managing queues so that people do not spend a long time waiting to be served,” said department spokesperson Siya Qoza. If only it were possible to award zero stars. Their computers are always offline. You end up standing in queues that never move, regardless of how long they are. They close before their official office hours end. They have also lied to people about sections being closed.
This ofcourse was greeted with the endless sound of a ringing phone being ignored by all. Bellville is unsafe, Paarl I waited so long in the queue outside that I got severe suburn (as I didn't take a hat) and Stellenbosch has shaded areas to queue in. It's my 5th visit to home affairs. 1st was Bellville, 2nd and 3rd was Paarl , 4th yesterday in Stellenbosch and 5th again at Stellenbosch today.

Useless is the only word that comes to mind because the ticketing system is random you may or may not be called. Waiting over 2 hours to have a photo taken application process not even started yet. Staff is rude, unorganized and unprofessional. To receive the abridged copies or unabridged copies of the marriage certificate by submitting the appropriate forms at the DHA office in Somerset West and by paying the fee. Spend 5 hours at this office. Only had to get my Biometrics done as I did the application online.
During the emergency period in South Africa as a result of the coronavirus / covid-19, changes may occur in the opening times of the Department of Home Affairs Office in Somerset West. The passport officer in Somerset West will check your identity, your photograph and your fingerprints. The Department of Home Affairs acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.

How this has gotten so appalingly bad, and continues to worsen, is a mystery. Perhaps out tax money could be spent on this, the systems that involve the people who pay it, rather than government staff's fancy cars and holiday trips. Such incompetence, seems like a rule of thumb when it comes to most government facilities. Rude, uninformed and lazy staff who dont appreciate their jobs. Told they are unable to amend a birth certificate due to lockdown level 3 and had to come back when it was level 2.

This Home Affairs office uses the new biometric system. You don't need to bring your own photographs unless you're applying for a temporary ID, in which case you must bring along 2 recent colour photos.
